Women's Lacrosse Falls Narrowly to Wentworth
Milton, MA - The Curry College women's lacrosse team dropped a tightly contested 10-9 decision to Wentworth on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. Curry showed resilience throughout, battling back from an early deficit to take the lead in the second half before a late Wentworth goal proved to be the difference.
Wentworth opened the scoring, but Ella Palanza answered with a free-position goal to even the score. After trading goals, Wentworth built a 5-2 advantage midway through the first quarter. The Colonels responded with a strong closing stretch, as Palanza, Grace Grosso, and Ava Doyle each scored in the final minutes to tie the game at 5-5 after one.
In the second quarter, Wentworth briefly regained the lead before Palanza netted her third goal of the game to send the teams into halftime tied at 6-6.
Curry carried that momentum into the third quarter, taking its first lead of the afternoon with back-to-back free-position goals from Palanza and Sydney Upham to make it 8-6. Wentworth answered late in the frame, cutting the deficit to one heading into the fourth.
The final quarter featured a back-and-forth battle, as Wentworth tied the game early before Palanza struck again to give Curry a 9-8 lead. However, Wentworth responded with consecutive goals to regain a 10-9 advantage with just over a minute remaining. Despite a strong effort down the stretch and a few late opportunities, Curry was unable to find the equalizer.
