Milton, MA - The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell to the University of New England, 21-10, in CNE action Tuesday evening at Walter M. Katz Field.
The Nor'easters controlled the pace early, scoring seven times in the opening quarter to build a 7-1 advantage. Ella Palanza accounted for Curry's lone goal in the frame, finishing an unassisted tally midway through the period.
Curry responded with its strongest stretch in the second quarter, keeping pace with UNE for most of the 15 minute period. Palanza netted three goals in the quarter, including a free-position strike, while Samantha Sprissler and Phoebe Sartory each added tallies to help trim the deficit to 14-6 at halftime.
UNE pulled away in the third, opening the half with four consecutive goals to extend its lead. Sprissler added her second of the game for Curry, but the Colonels entered the final quarter trailing 18-7.
In the fourth, Curry continued to battle with goals from Sarah Kelly, Palanza, and Nicole Michael, but the early gap proved too much to overcome as UNE secured the 21-10 victory.
Palanza led the Colonels with a five-goal performance, while Sprissler added two goals. Sartory, Kelly, and Michael also each contributed a goal apiece.
Defensively, Alexa Puopolo made 10 saves in net for Curry, while Nicole Michael led the team with seven draw controls.
Up Next: The Colonels will host non-conference opponent Lasell University on Thursday afternoon at 4 PM.
