Kelly’s Seven-Point Effort Not Enough as Curry Falls to Lasell, 14-9
Milton, MA – Despite a strong individual performance from Sarah Kelly, the Curry College women's lacrosse team fell to Lasell University women's lacrosse, 14-9, on Thursday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
Kelly led the Colonels with five goals and two assists, factoring into seven of Curry's nine tallies. Ella Palanza added two goals and two assists, while Nicole Michael chipped in a goal and an assist in the loss.
Lasell was powered by a dominant offensive showing from Lily Hunt, who netted seven goals, and Ruby Cahill, who added five goals and an assist. Emily Watson facilitated the attack with four assists.
The Lasers struck first and built an early advantage before Curry responded behind goals from Kelly and Samantha Sprissler to even the score at 2-2 late in the opening quarter. Lasell answered with a late goal to take a 3-2 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Curry briefly tied the game at 3-3 on a free-position goal from Kelly, but Lasell closed the half on a 2-1 run to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
The third quarter proved decisive, as Lasell erupted for six goals, including four from Cahill, to extend the lead to 11-5. Curry managed a goal from Palanza during the stretch but was unable to slow the Lasers' momentum.
Curry showed fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring Lasell 4-3 behind two more goals from Kelly, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Alexa Puopolo made seven saves in goal for Curry, while Lasell's Tia Spenlinhauer stopped 14 shots to secure the win.
Up Next: The Colonels will host their third home game of the week on Saturday, hosting the Western New England Golden Bears at 11 AM for Senior Day.
