Bristol, RI - The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell on the road Wednesday afternoon, dropping an 18-3 decision to Roger Williams at Bayside Field.
Roger Williams set the tone early, scoring the game's first two goals before Ella Palanza put Curry on the board with a man-up tally midway through the opening quarter. The host Hawks answered with two more goals to take a 4-1 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Roger Williams extended its advantage to 7-2, with Curry's lone goal coming on another man-up opportunity as Samantha Sprissler found the back of the net.
The game broke open in the third quarter, as Roger Williams posted eight goals in the period. Lauren Canata and Jamie Anthony led the charge, combining for multiple scores during the run to push the lead to 15-2 heading into the final frame.
Palanza added her second goal of the game early in the fourth quarter for Curry's final tally, but the Hawks closed the contest with three more goals to secure the 18-3 victory.
Palanza led the Colonels with two goals, while Sprissler added the team's other score. Defensively, Alexa Puopolo made 22 saves in net, facing 40 shots on goal.
With the regular season coming to an end, Freshman Ella Palanza finishes the season with 67 points (46 goals, 21 assists). Her points and goals scored totals are the fourth most in each category all-time by a Curry freshman.
The Colonels will end the year with a 4-13 overall record and 1-8 against Conference of New England opponents.
