Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Volleyball season began their season on Saturday, splitting a tri-match with Emmanuel and Lesley.
Match One vs Emmanuel
The Colonels would hang around in the first set, just trailing 17-14. But The Saints would go on a run after that, and won the first set 25-17. They would then handle the Colonels 25-12 and 25-10 in the next two sets, to take the match in straight sets.
The Colonels were led on offense by Meghan Abbott's four kills. Emma St. Cyr led the team with seven set assists. A freshman playing in her first career match. Kyla Martin led the team with eight digs.
Match Two vs Lesley
The second match of the day proved to be more successful for Curry, as they took down Lesley easily in straight sets by a score of 25-14, 25-14, 25-16.
It was a team effort, as eight different players recorded multiple kills, led by Ciara Crayton's four. St. Cyr was once again the team leader in set assists with eight, just ahead of Jasmyne Fillippini's six. Sonja Matheson had a team high eight digs, giving her exactly 500 in her career. With her last dig of the day she passed Alyssa Keeney '17 for 10th in program history. With a strong season she could jump all the way up to fifth in program history (Avia Fraine '24 - 708).
