Milton, MA - The Curry Women's Volleyball team split their Saturday doubleheader, falling to Framingham State and then beating Thomas (ME). The Colonels are now 4-7 on the season.
Match One vs Framingham State
The Colonels were never really able to get things going in this one, falling 25-15, 25-17, 25-8. A bright spot was Morgan Kramer, as she led the team with six kills. Jasmyne Fillippini and Carley May led the team in assists and digs respectively with 11 of each.
Match Two vs Thomas (ME)
Taking on a Thomas (ME) team who had just beat Framingham State, the Colonels were able to turn things around, and beat the Bears 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 31-29. This was the first time the two programs faced off in women's volleyball.
After three standard sets that saw the Colonels go up 2-1, the two teams engaged in a never-ending fourth set. The Colonels held the largest lead at 17-13 after scoring three straight points, but the Bears answered with four straight points of their own to tie things up. Later on, the Colonels scored three straight points to go up 24-22, and served two match points, but Thomas saved both of them, and then even served for a set point three times, trying to send the match to a fifth set. But Curry was able to save all of them, and then won the last two points of the match on kills from Kyla Martin, winning the set 31-29, and the match 3-1.
Only five players recorded a kill for the Colonels, but all five contributed mightily. Led by Meghan Abbott's 14 kills, the Colonels had a 0.073 hitting percentage. Also recording double-digit kills was Morgan Kramer with 12. The other three Colonels to record a kill were Kyla Martin (9), Ciara Crayton (8), and Jasmyne Fillippini (5). Fillippini also led the team with 36 set assists and 20 digs. The 36 set assists were tied for the seventh most in a four-set match in program history. Also collecting 20 digs was Kramer, giving both her and Fillippini double-doubles. Also recording double-digit digs were Sonja Matheson (14), Martin (14), and Carley May (10).
Up Next - The Colonels will return to conference play on Wednesday, when they host Roger Williams at 6pm.
