Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team had their best outing of the season on Saturday, as they defeated #5 Hamilton 4-2. It was Hamilton's first loss of the season, as they dropped to 8-1-2. The Colonels are now 7-4-0. It was a repeat performance of last year's NCAA Quarterfinal game, where the Colonels defeated the Continentals 4-1 to advance to the Frozen Four.
The Colonels, fired up by a pre-game message from Assistant Coach Mike Sones, came out as the more aggressive of the two teams, outshooting the Continentals early on. They finally found the back of the net about 13 minutes in when Gage Dill scored on assists from Karim Gayfullin and Ryan Prewitt. They then doubled their lead four minutes into the second on a Killian Rowlee goal, assisted by Taurin Haddon-Harris.
For the second straight night, the Colonels held a 2-0 lead, but unlike the night before, they were able to continue to build the lead up. Less than a minute into the third period Rowlee struck again, this time from Gayfullin and Daigneault. Hamilton did get one back midway through the period, but Manny Cabral struck back for the Colonels with about three minutes left, on assists from Tyler Isherwood and Shane Carr. The Continentals would get a goal back with about a minute left, but it was too little, too late.
The Continentals outshot the Colonels 37-32, and won the faceoff battle 51-25. But the Colonels won in the only category that mattered, the scoreboard.
Cam Smith stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced.
Up Next - The Colonels will look to build off this win next Friday when they host Roger Williams at 7pm.
