Canton, MA - The Curry Men's Hockey team battled back against JWU to win 3-2 after going down 2-0. The Colonels are now 11-4-0 on the season and 8-2-0 in CNE play, while the Wildcats are 5-7-1 and 3-5-0. Previously, the last time the Colonels came back from a two goal deficit was January 27, 2024, when they overcame a 2-0 UNE lead to win 4-2.
The Colonels dominated the first period, but were unable to get anything in the goal. It appeared as if it would stay scoreless headed to the second. But the Wildcats won a faceoff with 1.7 seconds remaining, and an immediate shot off the faceoff win scored to put them up 1-0. They then doubled their lead four minutes into the second on a shorthanded goal.
The Colonels dominated the rest of the second period, as they outshot the Wildcats 18-4 in the period. They got within one goal 11 minutes into the second period on a Manny Cabral goal. The goal was set up by a Matt Connor pass. The Colonels would trail by one headed into the third. They found themselves on a power play eight minutes into the period, and Victor Daigneault deflected a shot from Jesse Galassi past the goalie, tying the game at two. Just two minutes later Ben Bieaster won a faceoff in the Colonels defensive zone, and then went flying down the net. Off the faceoff the puck went to Gage Dill, who passed it to Biester, who put the Colonels on top 3-2. The Wildcats would pull their goalie with just over a minute remaining, but were unable to find an equalizing goal.
In addition to the GWG, it was a special game for Biester, as he became just the 15th player in program history to reach 100 career games played.
The Colonels outshot the Wildcats 47-23, and won 40 of 68 faceoffs.
Cam Smith stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced, including some big saves late in the third.
Up Next - The two teams will play at JWU on Saturday at 7pm.
