Men's Lacrosse Picked Third in CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team was selected to finish third out of nine teams in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2019 Curry men's lacrosse team returns all three of its first line midfielders from last season, all of whom registered 30 or more points. The Colonels will look to top returning point returners in 2018 All-CCC Second Team selection senior Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.), who finished top 10 in the conference in goals, assists, and points. Curry will also look for production from 2018 All-CCC Second Team selection in junior Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.), senior MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.), also a Second Team All-CCC selection. Junior Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) rounds out the top point recorders as he finished with 34.
A strong ground ball game from senior captain Zach White (Milford, Conn.) (148), a First Team All-CCC selection and leadership from senior goalie Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) will help the Colonels improve a season in which they finished 10-6 overall and 5-3 in league play, earning the number three seed in the CCC Tournament. The captains who will lead this year's team will be White, senior Dylan Cromwell (Fairhaven, Mass.), Newell, and Stebbins.
In addition to the key returners, the squad also has a solid group of first-year students who will be looking to crack the lineup this year. The program has also benefited from three transfers who could all contribute in their respective areas. Across the board, fans of Curry men's lacrosse should expect to see some new faces, or familiar faces in new positions this spring.
Western New England took the top spot in the poll, grabbing 79 points and seven first-place votes. Endicott places second with 71 points and the final two first-place votes. Curry (63), University of New England (51), and Roger Williams (47) round out the top five. Salve Regina (36), Nichols (25), Wentworth (20), and Gordon (13) close out the bottom of the poll.
Curry opens the 2019 campaign on Saturday, February 23 when they head to Norwich for a 1:00 p.m. face off. The Colonels open CCC play on Saturday, March 23 at Endicott at 3:00 p.m.
