Milton, MA - The Curry College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision to the University of New England on Tuesday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
The visitors came out strong, scoring five times in the opening quarter to take early control. Curry answered with goals from Blake Rothstein and Sam Melia, the latter coming off an assist from Rothstein, but still trailed 5-2 after one.
In the second quarter, the University of New England continued to build its lead, adding three more goals. Donovan Mawhinney provided the lone response for Curry with an unassisted tally, sending the Colonels into halftime facing an 8-3 deficit.
After a defensive start to the second half, the Nor'easters struck first in the third before Rothstein found the back of the net again, this time off a feed from Nicholas Cole, to make it 9-4 heading into the final quarter.
Curry showed fight in the fourth, with Cole scoring twice and assisting on Max Ritt's late goal, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Nor'easters sealed the 13-7 victory.
Cole led the Colonels offensively with two goals and two assists, while Rothstein added two goals and an assist. Mawhinney and Melia each chipped in a goal, and Ritt accounted for Curry's final tally.
In net, Niko DeCola made 13 saves in majority of the action, while Logan Gibbons came in late in relief.
Up Next: The Colonels are set to host Western New England on Saturday at 2 PM.
