Men's Tennis Stumbles Against Endicott
MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College men's tennis team was topped 8-1 by Endicott College on Saturday afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts.
Endicott won all three doubles matches and then took five of six singles points to seal the victory. The Gulls improved to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in CCC play while Curry dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Endicott won four singles matches in straight sets, with sophomore Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) setting the tone at the No. 1 spot. He bested freshman Roland Polasek (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) by finals of 6-0, 6-1. Senior Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.) and freshman Julian Richtarich (Westport, Conn.) won at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, and junior Collin Dinardo (Westport, Mass.) earned a win at No. 4 by finals of 6-2, 6-3.
Curry junior David Monteiro (Fall River, Mass.) fought back for a win over freshman Julian Coyle (Derry, N.H.) at No. 5 singles. Monteiro captured the opening set 6-3 but was edged out in the second 7-6 (7-2). He pulled out the win 10-6 in a 10-point tiebreaker that decided the match.
Nick and Richtarich earned an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles while Dinardo and Rinkert paired up at No. 2 for an identical 8-0 score. Coyle and junior Elijah Harris (Haverhill, Mass.) won at No. 3 doubles via forfeit.
Curry welcomes in Gordon College for its next match on Thursday, April 8 starting at 3:30 p.m. Endicott returns to action on Thursday at Wentworth at 3:30 p.m.
