Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Castleton
Castleton, VT — The Curry College women's lacrosse team fell to Vermont State Castleton, 9–4, on Saturday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium. The Colonels drop to 2–3 on the season, while the Spartans improve to 1–1.
Castleton opened the game with a strong first quarter, scoring five times to take an early 5–2 lead. Nicole Michael put Curry on the board midway through the period with an unassisted goal, and Samantha Sprissler added another late in the quarter to keep the Colonels within striking distance.
The Spartans extended their lead in the second quarter with a pair of goals to move ahead 7–2 before Ella Palanza responded with a goal for Curry late in the half to cut the deficit to 7–3 at the break.
In the third quarter, Castleton added another goal before Sprissler scored her second of the game off an assist from Michael to make it an 8–4 contest heading into the final frame.
Neither team was able to find much offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter until the Spartans added a late goal in the final seconds to secure the 9–4 victory.
Sprissler led the Colonels offensively with two goals, while Michael and Palanza each added a goal. Michael also recorded an assist in the contest.
Defensively, Alexa Puopolo turned in a strong performance in goal for Curry, making 15 saves while facing 31 shots.
Curry finished with 17 ground balls in the game, led by Puopolo with six, but Castleton held advantages in shots and draw controls throughout the afternoon.
Up Next: Curry will host back on Katz Field on Tuesday afternoon, facing Suffolk at 4 PM.
