West Hartford, CT - The Curry College women's lacrosse team dropped a road contest to Hartford, 20-4, on Tuesday evening at Al-Marzook Field.
Hartford (6-4, 3-1) came out strong and never looked back, opening the game with eight unanswered goals in the first quarter to take control early. The hosts added five more in the second period to build a 13-0 advantage before Curry (3-8, 0-5) found the scoreboard late in the half.
Junior Ella Palanza led the Colonels offensively, tallying a goal and an assist, while Sarah Kelly and Samantha Sprissler each added a goal. Caitlin Greeley also found the back of the net for Curry, accounting for the team's four goals.
Curry broke through at the 5:33 mark of the second quarter when Palanza scored unassisted. Kelly followed with a goal in the closing seconds of the half off a feed from Ava Doyle, cutting the deficit to 13-2 at the break.
In the third quarter, Greeley capitalized on a pass from Palanza to score Curry's lone goal of the period. Sprissler added the Colonels' final tally midway through the fourth quarter with an assist from Nicole Michael.
Hartford was paced by Sara Costa and Kate Zonin, who each recorded four goals, while Laurel McIntosh added three goals. The Hawks controlled possession throughout, holding a 19-3 advantage in draw controls and outshooting Curry 41-15.
Goalkeeper Alexa Puopolo made nine saves in the cage for Curry, facing 29 shots on goal.
Up Next: The Colonels will look to bounce back after a week long hiatus on Wednesday April 8th, at home against Gordon College.
