Alumni Spotlight - Kate Joyce '19, Cheerleading

MILTON, Mass. – Kate Joyce '19 (Pembroke, Mass.) is the next to be featured in our Alumni Spotlight series. She was a nursing major and a member of the Curry College cheerleading program.
List all postgraduate degrees you have obtained (include institution): Currently enrolled in MSN at Sacred Heart University
Current place of employment: Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth, Mass.
Current job title and what does that position entail? I am currently working as an Emergency Room Nurse.
How did being a student-athlete at Curry assist in preparing you for your career? Being a student-athlete allowed me to build teamworking skills, which are so valuable in the emergency department.
What piece of advice would you have for current Curry College student-athletes? Enjoy your time as a student-athlete. Although it can be hard to balance academics with athletics, your experiences, teammates, and memories make it all worth it.
What is your most fond memory of Curry College Athletics? My most fond memory was winning the NCA Intermediate Division III National Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. with my teammates.
What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments at Curry College? My greatest accomplishments were being named Captain, winning NCA Nationals, and making friends that will last a lifetime.
Why did you choose Curry College? I chose Curry because both of my parents went here. I grew up going to Curry football games and watching the Curry cheerleaders. The nursing program is a highly respected and I was able to do my clinical as at some of the best hospitals in the country. I am thankful for all the experiences I had and am so glad I chose Curry.
