Biddeford, ME - The Curry Men's Hockey team picked up a statement win on the season, beating #7 ranked UNE on Friday by a final score of 3-1. The Colonels are now 6-2-0 on the season, and 4-1-0 in CNE play. The Nor'easters are now 7-2-0 and 5-1-0.
Coming off a deflating loss to Trinity on Sunday, the Colonels showed no signs of being down. They struck first halfway through the opening period, as Gage Dill scored off assists from Karim Gayfullin and Jett Otwell. The Nor'easters would tie things up early in the second, but Curry would respond quickly. Four minutes after the UNE goal, Ryan Prewitt put the Colonels back on top with a goal assisted by Shane Carr and Ben Biester. The score would remain 2-1 until the final minutes of the game, when Dill would secure the win with an empty netter.
The Colonels had one of their best outings in the faceoff circle all season, winning 34 of the 59 draws. They also outshot the Nor'easters 29 to 21.
Cam Smith got the nod in net for the Colonels, and stopped 20 of those 21 shots to get the win.
Up Next - The two teams play in what might be the most important CNE game all season on Saturday in Canton at 7pm. The winner will hold the season tiebreaker between the top two teams in the conference.
