Albany, NY - The Curry men's volleyball team split their tri-match on Saturday at Russell Sage, falling to the hosts 3-1, and then sweeping Hartwick 3-0. The Colonels are now 12-13 on the season, and 1-5 in NEVC play.
Match One vs Russel Sage
The Colonels fell to Sage in four sets by a score of 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23. After losing the first two sets, the Colonels dominated the third, and used a 7-1 late run in the fourth to threaten sending it to a fifth, but the hosts won the last two points, winning the set and the match.
Nyko Whitaker did everything on offense for the Colonels, leading the team in both kills and set assists with 13 kills and 30 set assists. Chris Milfort was behind him with 11 kills, and they had help from Jayden Garcia and Nicholas Watson, who each had nine. Braden Alpert led the team with 16 digs.
Match Two vs Hartwick
The Colonels won a tightly contested match with Hartwick, winning 25-23, 30-28, 27-25. Hartwick had opportunities to win both the second and third sets, but the Colonels fended those set points off, and were able to win in a sweep.
Chris Milfort recorded another double-digit kills match, with a team high 19. Jayden Garcia and Nicholas Watson each had seven. Nyko Whitaker dished out a majority of the assists with 31, and recorded his second double-double of the day with a team high 10 digs.
